The whole point of Apple Pay being safer is that the merchant doesn’t get your card information. Card skimming is a big problem mainly at ATMs and gas station pumps. My bank is great enough to take contactless at our ATMs but I can’t find any gas stations that take it at the pump. Does anyone know a gasoline company that does this?

A note for those who live near a Meijers Store. Last week I went to a Meijers Gas station at a local Meijers Store to get gas. I went into the station store and asked if Apple Pay would work at the pump. They said it would not, that it would work inside the store, but not yet at the pump.

FWIW, Meijer brand gas stations have an actual NFC reader on their pumps. Unfortunately it’s pretty hit or miss, despite them being an official Apple Pay supporter. Apple says to tell Meijer about the issue, Meijer says it’s on Apple. Sigh.

My car was out of gas. I found out that you can buy shell gas cards at Walgreens and Walgreens takes Apple Pay. But using Locator I found out chevron takes Apple Pay too. I found out because the Shell station was closed and I used the map function to find anything near by that took Apple Pay.
