However it seems that the previous owner changed the gas tank sensor and did not link it to the smartcraft, hence the alarm.

If you talk with Livorsi or research the sender, it is designed to work with different depth fuel tanks. Mine came calibrated from the dealer just like it should but the only fuel info I ever use is "Fuel used". if you reset the reading when you fill up you'll always know how much you've got left. The fuel used info doesn't care about the shape of the tank or the accuracy of the tank calibration.

One issue, at least the one I am struggling with, is that older engines do not provide fuel flow information from the engine. I think only engines made since around 2006 or later provide that kind of information, which includes Mercury (Smartcraft), Volvo (NMEA2000), Yanmar (NMEA2000), Crusader (NMEA2000), and several others that do NMEA2000.

Has anyone had to reload all SmartCraft information? I just purchased a 2009 R 25, and the screen display was frozen. No change in RPM or display during the sea trial. I was told it would be fixed before purchase, but after a few hours underway after purchase, it appears all the data is missing, i.e., no tank data, fuel qty, etc.

I had the fuel tank drained before filling, and went through the tank calibration process per the Mercury manual. I have a 300 Verado and SC 1000 gauges BTW. I used the boat all weekend and the tank is still showing 56 gallons, which is full and what it started at. I have done some searches and found it could be a few different issues.

Unless the genny is on the system as well, and subtracting fuel flow out of the specific tank you will be off on the levels even with the smartcraft system, as it will think you have more than you actually do in the tanks. However you can keep track of run time and subtract out in your head how much fuel you are using for your specific genny.
